Frank S. Dimit Jr. 79 of Steubenville, OH died Saturday, July 5, 2003 at Trinity Medical Center West, Steubenville. He was born in Steubenville on December 15, 1923 the son of the late F. Scott and Grace Johnson Dimit. Preceded in death by his wife Margaret J. “Peggy” Dimit on Feburary 17, 1995 and a brother Robert L. Dimit. He retired from Weirton Steel Company as managing engineer and at one time served as superintendent of the fuel department and retired as manager of utilities. Graduated from Steubenville High School (class of 1941) and received a B.S. degree in aeronautical engineering from the University of Cincinnati after serving his country in World War II. Veteran of WWII and Korean War. Served as a bombardier on a B-17 in the 95th bomb group, 8th Air Force. He completed 35 combat missions over German territory. Member of First Westminster Presbyterian Church, Steubenville, where he served as Elder and Deacon. Dedicated public servant who volunteered numerous hours to church and civic organizations, including Salvation Army, Y.M.C.A., Cancer Society, Board of Trustees Jefferson County Technical Institute (1977-1989), Jefferson Community College Foundation Board, Library Boards of Steubenville and Jefferson County (1995-2003) and the Board of Fort Steuben and was an Eagle Scout. Survived by one daughter Sandra Ranallo and her husband Richard of Steubenville, and one son Richard Dimit and his wife Cindy, of Oklahoma City, OK and a brother Richard J. Dimit of Santa Barbara, CA. Five grandchildren Russ Ranallo, Sara Nocera, Bradley, Brandon and Bryce Dimit. Two great grandchildren Zoe Nocera and Caleb Ranallo. Also several nephews and nieces. Friends may call at the Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Road, Wintersville on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., where funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 10 a.m. Rev. Robert J. Shearer to officiate. Burial at Union Cemetery, Steubenville, where Ohio Valley Veterans Memorial Squad will conduct military services. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Steubenville High School Scholarship Foundation, 420 North 4th Street, Steubenville, OH 43952 or any of the above agencies Frank served. “The best way to judge how good a man is, is to find out how he stands around his home and among his kind of people.” Will Rogers
