Obituary For Francis "Terry" Zavacky

When returning from a trip to Alaska, Francis “Terry” Zavacky of Steubenville, Ohio succumbed to fatal injuries in a one-vehicle car accident near Gold Beach, Oregon on Saturday, September 5, 2015.

Terry was born July 9, 1947 at home in West Mifflin , PA to the late John Zavacky and Mary Kolcan Zavacky. He is survived by his wife, Jayne Wilson Zavacky; his son, Jason Zavacky; daughter, Melissa Zavacky Myers; brother, Robert (Marcy) Zavacky; sisters, Mary Elizabeth (Bill) Smith, Irene (Bill) Algeri, Patricia (Ron) Bost, and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

A graduate of Penn State University, Terry worked as an engineer throughout his career for different companies before his retirement. Retirement gave him more time to spend helping different organization in Jefferson County including the Historic Fort Steuben and the Pleasant Hill Historical Schoolhouse Museum. His love for preserving the past was evident in his passion for antique shopping at auctions and restoring and collecting antique and classic cars. Terry was a past president of the Penn-Ohio Model “A” Club which led him and Jayne on many jaunts around the area and participation in parades. His love for travel recently took him to Australia, Alaska, Hawaii, Cuba, and a cruise through the Panama Canal. His joy for life enriched all who met him, and his passing will cause a void in the lives of all who knew him.

Arrangements are private and at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to the Historic Fort Steuben, 123 S. 3rd Street, Steubenville, OH 43952 or the Wilson-Zavacky Scholarship at Steubenville High School, 420 N. 4th Street, Steubenville, OH 43952.

Bob and I want to tell you how sorry we are for your loss please accept our deepest condolences. Terry' s love of travel in his Model A was always evident by the joy on his face as he went down the road or while he talked about old cars with other enthusiasts. He was always ready to give up a spare part to keep another car going. GOD be with each of you and give you comfort.
