Obituary For Fern Mae Grubbs

Fern Mae Grubbs, 97, of Guysville, Ohio died Thursday, December 3, 2015 at The Laurels of Athens. She was born on February 10, 1918 in Powhatan Point, Ohio, the daughter of the late Jacob and Carrie Walter Carpenter. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband J. Fred Grubbs on September 27, 1972; daughter-in-law Suzanne Grubbs and brothers Lester, Walter and Roy Carpenter. After graduating from high school in Powhatan, she went on to graduate from cosmetology school in East Liverpool and later settled in the Steubenville and Wintersville areas, where she and her husband raised their children. It seemed her lifelong ambition was to meet and befriend everyone she met, as she truly loved life and people and knew no strangers. She had many talents and enjoyed horticulture and cooking. She was a member of First Christian Church of Steubenville and attended Orange Christian Church in Lottridge, Ohio, after moving to Guysville in 1982 to be close to her daughter. She is survived by her children Jon Grubbs of Bloomingdale, Ohio and Jane (Philip) St. Angelo of Guysville, Ohio; four grandchildren Sarah (Derrick Min) St. Angelo, Jacob (Jennifer) St. Angelo, Edward E. Grubbs and Erika Grubbs; six great-grandchildren and many dear friends. Friends may call at the Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Road, Wintersville, Ohio on Saturday from 1 – 3 p.m., where funeral services will be held on Sunday and friends may call from noon until the time of services at 1:30 p.m. Pastor Shawn Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Fort Steuben. Memorial contributions may be directed to Pittsburgh Children’s Hospital or Appalachian Community Hospice, 30 Herrold Avenue, Athens, Ohio 45701.

    I'm so sorry for your loss. I remember "Sarah's Grandma" as a kind, warm-hearted woman who could make someone feel special just by having a conversation with you. Even as a young child I could see just how much she loved and adored her wonderful family. Such a blessing to have her in your lives. Thinking of you.
