Everett M. “Barney” Thomas, 80 of Wintersville, Ohio died Sunday, February 15, 2004 at home. He was born in Steubenville, Ohio on August 8, 1923 a son of the late Fred A. and Mary L. Monigold Thomas. He was a retired RR engineer at Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp and served in US Army during WWII, having received the Normandy Invasion Medal. A Methodist by faith, Barney held membership in American Legion Post 557 and V.F.W. both in Wintersville. He was the Jefferson County Veteran of the Year in 2002 and was the Commander of the Ohio Valley Veterans Memorial Squad. Barney was preceded in death by his wife Mary Martha Thomas on December 31, 1999 and three brothers. Surviving are his daughter Marsha (Lindley “Lindy”) Hennis of Bloomingdale, Ohio; son Dennis Thomas of Wintersville; four grandchildren Mark Thomas, Shari Daniels, Kacie Hennis and Zachary Hennis; three great grandchildren; brother Howard L. (Dorothy) Thomas of Bloomingdale; and sisters Ruth Hickle, Deloris Lowry and Helen Atkins all of Kentucky. Friends may call at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, Wintersville on Tuesday 2-4 & 7-9 p.m., where services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday. Burial at Fort Steuben where Ohio Valley Memorial Squad will conduct chapel services. Contributions in Barney’s memory may be made to Ohio Valley Veterans Memorial Squad.
