Eugene E. “Skip” Rowland, 86, of Bloomingdale, Ohio died Friday, March 1, 2013 at Gables Care Center. He was born March 7, 1926 in Steubenville a son of the late Archie E. & Emma Behnke Rowland. Skip was a retired Nationwide Insurance agent for forty years and a devoted member of Unionport U.M. Church. One week after graduating from W.I. High School in Clarksburg, WV in 1944, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps and served as a tail gunner. Skip served as a Sunday School teacher at church and was a member of Cadiz Country Club and former member of Steubenville Country Club. He was past president of both Life Underwriters and Dapper Dan. Preceding Skip in death were his parents, two sons Randy & Rick, brother Robert and sister Lillian Rowland. He is survived by his wife M. Jeanette “Nep” Wood Rowland whom he married on June 5, 1948; son Ron (Pat) Rowland; daughter Lynn (Charlie) Hlusko both of Fairmont, WV and three grandchildren Ryan & Adam Rowland and Katelyn Hlusko. Friends may call at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Road, Wintersville on Saturday, March 9th, from 10:30 a.m. until the time of a Life Celebration service at noon with Rev. William Hibbs and Pastor Chuck Mehl officiating.In lieu of flowers, the Rowland family strongly suggests that memorials be directed to Unionport U.M. Church, 64 West St., Unionport, OH 43966, in Skip’s honor.
