Ernest Henry Stromeyer 87, a lifelong resident of the Steubenville area died Saturday, October 9, 2004 from complications of surgery in Farmington, New Mexico. He had been living in Farmington with his son, Ernest Lee Stromeyer, for the past three years. Ernest was born in Mingo Junction, Ohio on March 27, 1917 a son of the late George and Margaret Stromeyer. He was a retired crane operator from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel and served in the South Pacific during WWII. Preceding him in death were his wife of 49 years Helen Wolfe Stromeyer; two brothers Edward and Lewis Stromeyer and one sister Dorothy Sinfield. Ernest is survived by his son Ernest Lee (Ellen) Stromeyer; grandchildren Marika and Michael Stromeyer; great granddaughter Daysa; brothers Kenneth, Floyd, Daniel and Benjamin Stromeyer; and sisters Viola Lee and Phyllis Dunfee. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Fort Steuben Burial Estates with Rev. Jeff Proya officiating.
