Elsie Mae Hawkins, 75, loving wife, mother, and grandmother went home to be with the Lord on July 30, 2002 after a short, courageous battle with cancer. Born on October 28, 1926 to the late Frederick and Rose Brody Dreyer, she was preceded in death by her brother, Fred Dreyer; niece, Katie Kell; sister-in-law Frances Miller (Raymond) deceased; and brothers-in-law, Emmett Moody and Corliss Harsha. Elsie graduated from Steubenville High School in 1943 where she was an honor student and enjoyed playing clarinet in the school band. A long and faithful member of the First Christian Church of Steubenville, she served as a deaconess, was a member of Christian Women’s Fellowship, and sang in the choir. First employed by Gesheider-Stuart Insurance Agency prior to raising her family, she later became office manager for Matty Oklok Insurance Agency retiring in 1984. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading, and gardening and was a good cook and a meticulous cleaner. She leaves behind to honor and cherish her memory, her loving husband of 53 years, H.Wayne Hawkins; children, Curtis Wayne (Claire) Hawkins, M.D., Mark Allen Hawkins (Theresa DeVore), grandson, Bryan Andrew Hawkins, brothers; William (Peggy) Dreyer, Elmer (Shirley) Dreyer, Kenneth (Michele) Dreyer and sisters: Edith Moody and Rose Harsha, brother-in-law Paul (Mildred) Hawkins and a host of nieces and nephews. Elsie will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by her family, friends, and neighbors who have supported her with love throughout her life and particularly during her last days. Calling hours will be at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Road, Wintersville on Thursday, August 1, 2002 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m, where funeral services will be held on Friday, August 2, 2002 at 11 a.m Rev.
