Edward G. Schnabel 85 of Wintersville, Ohio died Monday, December 15, 2003 at home of natural causes. He was born in Steubenville, Ohio on August 4, 1918 a son of the late Christian and Emma Melching Schnabel. Ed was a member of Starkdale U.P. Church for 55 years where he served as an elder and a deacon. He also was a square dance caller, served in the Army during WWII and was a life member of V.F.W. Post 4122 in Wintersville. He retired from National Steel Corp. as the assistant manager of the claims dept. Ed was preceded in death by his wife Helen Burnetta Farley Schnabel on April 21, 1997; three brothers Charles, Chris and James Schnabel and one sister Emma Carroll. Surviving are one son Douglas A. Schnabel of Houma, Louisiana; daughter Cathy (James) Lipinski of Richmond, Ohio; four granddaughters Lori (Keith) Kinney, Melissa (Mark) Fremin, Leanne (Kern) Boudreaux and Anna (Tom) Ault; three great grandsons David James and Andrew Keith Kinney and Porter Matthew Boudreaux; two brothers Robert (Gloria) Schnabel and Thomas (Virginia) Schnabel and two sisters Margie McCracken and Nellie Hemphill all of Canton, Ohio. Friends may call at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Road, Wintersville on Wednesday 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. and on Thursday from 10:30 a.m. until time of services at 11 a.m. at Starkdale U.P. Church with Rev. John Zuercher officiating. Burial at Union Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Starkdale Church. Fort Knox Honor Guard and Ohio Valley Veterans Memorial Squad will conduct services at the cemetery chapel.
