I was in Mr. Kalifut's math class at Grant Jr Hi in 1953 or so and have always remembered him well. I loved math and he was one of the reasons; great teacher and well liked by students. Probably one of the reasons I majored in math and had a long career in math/computer science, most as a professor.

My condolences to family and friends. Mr. Kalifut was my 6th grade teacher at Garfield Elementary in 1966/67. He was good teacher. I remember he had a broken middle finger that he would use to point to the chalkboard and he kept order in the classroom but didn't bully us. His son, who was a policeman, helped me when my purse was stolen from Ohio Valley Hospital's E.R. Officer Kalifut told me his name and I said I had a school teacher by that name. He said that was his dad!
