Edith R. Forester 92 of Wintersville, Ohio passed away Friday, March 14, 2003 at Forester Nursing Home, Wintersville. She was born on March 5, 1911 in Antioch, Ohio a daughter of the late Alan and Alice Stein Truax. Edith and her late husband George were the co-founders and operators of Forester Nursing Home, Wintersville, which they opened in 1947 and she retired in 1993. A member of the Wintersville Area Chamber of Commerce for 26 years, she received its Bartell Award in 1976 and was honored as Citizen of the Year in 1987. She worked on the Wintersville Community Days and was one of the first members of the Wintersville Volunteer Fire Department Womens Auxiliary. Edith served on the advisory board of the Jefferson Community College for the licensed practical nurses program. She is a life member of the Jefferson County Historical Society and a member of the Jefferson County Chapter of M.A.D.D., Jefferson County Republican Committee Women, Friendship Club, Pilot Club and organized bus tours for senior citizens for many years. Edith was preceded in death by her husband George H. Forester in 1959, 3 brothers and 2 sisters. She was a Methodist by faith. Edith was the loving mother of three daughters Ruth Forester Eddy and husband George of Wintersville, Shirley Forester Dillon and husband Robert of Searcy, Arkansas, Lois Forester Kayafas and husband A. Leonard of Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, one son Daun Forester and wife Renee of Wintersville, eleven grandchildren Denise Eddy George, George Robert Eddy III, David Dillon, Janet Dillon Liggett, Shari Dillon Fitzpatrick, Todd Dillon, Sophia Kayafas Contes, Constance Kayafas Kaiser, Dr. Christopher Kayafas, Beth Bane, and Daun Forester; three step granddaughters Adessa DiMarzio, Amy Goodrich, and Arianna Elder; 26 great grandchildren and two step great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren. She will be sorely missed by family, friends and many whose lives she touched. Friends will be received on Saturday 7-9 p.m. and Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Road, Wintersville where funeral services will be held on Monday at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend David Sperry officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Steuben Burial Estates, Wintersville, Ohio. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to: Jefferson County Community College, in care of Licensed Practical Nurses Program, 4000 Sunset Blvd., Steubenville, OH 43952. A scholarship fund will be made in the name of Edith R. Forester. A special thank-you to all nurses and aids at the nursing home for the wonderful and loving care they gave our Dear Mother.
