Obituary For Dr. Samuel S. Campbell

Dr. Samuel S. Campbell, Jr., 90 of Port Orange, FL formerly of Steubenville went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Wednesday, June 2, 2010 in Florida. He was born in Vandergrift, PA on June 28, 1919 the son of the late Samuel S., Sr.,and Carrie Shoemaker Campbell. Dr. Campbell graduated from The Ohio State University School of Optometry in 1942. He practiced in Steubenville for over 50 years. Serving in the U.S. Navy during WWII in the South Pacific from 1942 to 1946, he retired from the Naval Reserve as Commander. Dr. Campbell spent his childhood in Martins Ferry, OH where he worked at his father’s store: City Newsstand. He was an active member of First Westminster Presbyterian Church, Steubenville and was a board member of the Adult Literacy Council and a sponsor of the Citizens Scholarship Foundation and was past president of the Jefferson County Ohio State University Alumni Association. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his 1st wife Wanda Wike Campbell; 2nd wife Wilma Geddis Trudicks Campbell; sisters Geraldine Harris and Alma Egan. Dr. Campbell is survived by daughters Betsy (Paul) Sedio of San Antonio, TX and Susan (Michael) Stanich of Westerville, OH; step-daughter Sheryl (William) Breetz of Hartford, CT; grandchildren Julie Townsend, Kevin Stanich, Brian and Jennifer Sedio. Friends may call at Shorac Funeral Home, 611 N. 4th Street, Steubenville, OH on Friday from 4-7 p.m. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday at First Westminster Presbyterian Church, Steubenville, OH with Rev. Jason Elliott officiating. Burial at Union Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the church.

    To the love ones of Sam.... I was a friend of Wilma & Sam..I was past president of Steubenville Art Assoc. way back when.And very good friends. Wil was such an artist..and Sam supported her so much and the Assoc. They were a great couple, and enriched my life just knowning them. Now they are together again. I also called Anne Knowles this morn. about Sam ,as she would call him here in Florida and she is in a Home in Manassas Va..any one who wants to get in touch with her call me @ 561 495 1425 Florida Good old friends of the Campbells.     Dr. Campbell was my eye dr. all my youth when his office was on 4th St. He was so nice. My heartfelt sympathy to all his loved ones. Mary Lynch
