Mark and Family- So very sorry to hear about your dad and Joanne. I grew up with Joanne in the old neighborhood. Your dad was such a kind and compassionate person and it was evident he had a love for animals. My Uncle George always talked about Doc Wise. My thoughts and prayers are with you

Barb, Mark and John, Please accept my deepest sympathy...Jack and his wonderful staff took care of our beloved dog "Dudley" for many years. I remember in particular one Memorial Day weekend when Dudley swallowed a "loaded" fish hook. It was 10:00 on Saturday night and I called him from Tappan Lake...he said come on in and he'd meet us at the office...it was long after midnight when we left and Dudley was resting comfortably...he operated on him the next day...it probably spoiled a holiday weekend for him, but it made ours very special. When after almost 15 years, it was time to say goodbye to the best dog we ever had. Jack was there, with words of encouragement and his personal touch. It was evident that he truly loved all his patients. Our family will always remember his special care.

Mr. & Mrs. Wise and Family, I just wanted to give my deepest sympathy to you and your family at this difficult time. Mr. Wise, I never told you before, but your dad was our vet when we were children. I just remember how caring he was and how much he loved taking care of animals. I bet that he loved (and spoiled) your children and was blessed to spend his time with them. You and your family are in my prayers.

Mark and family, We were so shocked and saddened to hear of the tragic death of your father and his wife. I've known your father almost as long as you have...he took care of my poodle when I was in elementary school. Our pets would never have gone anywhere but to Doc Wise. He was the best. My mom and dad and Fred and I hated it when your dad retired. From what I know, I think your dad had a fulfilling and happy life...his love of animals, his children and grandchildren, his flying, his envolvment in the coummunity and his loyality and love to The Ohio State University. Your family is in our thoughts and prayers. As you know, God is near you in your time of grief and will give you all the strength you will need in the days to come. I know well that losing a parent is very tuff but God is by our sides through it all. If you need anything at all, just let us know. Sincerely, Fred and Marijo Young

We are shocked and saddened by the news. You all have our sincere condolences. Although I have been gone for many years, your family has always been in my heart on my mind with pleasant memories. I would have never dreamed of anyone except Doc Wise looking at my pets. I have been known to drive 853 miles just to have him take a look at my dog. And then there was shooting pool in the basement with John and Mark. Very good memories. My thoughts and prayers are with you guys.

Dear Mark and family, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. For it is truly a great to loss to all of us who had the privilege to have your father treat our pets. I remember a time when I brought our dog in after she had dashed out the door and ran into the side of a car. Your father walked out into the waiting area and sat down and the dog just went and laid her head in his lap.You could almost see her eyes saying "Help me, Doc". He not only helped her but the rest of the dogs we had up until his retirement. He was the best. May God bless all of you at this very difficult time.

Dear Mark and family, Your father was the first person I ever flew with. Remember the trip to the Outer Banks? But I also remember recording the information on pregnant cows while he was up to his shoulder checking them. Spending time with you father was always an adventure, and I have many fond memories of him. He was our vet and friend for many years. Our deepest condolences from Mom and me. Susan and Lillian Gossett

It was a privilege to have had the experiences of Dr. Wise's veterinary skills benefiting our animals - some never to forget moments to save them noone else would have tried. How fortunate we are to have known him as a vet and friend since the early 60's.

  • 09/03/2024

Dear Wise Family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. I had the privilege of working for Doc Wise while in high school. His compassion for his work was inspiring and his sense of humor lightened up the room. He was truly one of a kind.

Mark and Jeanette, our prayers and sympathy are with you and your families in the loss of Dr. Wise. I felt like I knew him personally thru going to him for our Vet for about 25 years. Many a time, I wish we had him here in NC for our pets. They are ok here, but not Dr. Wise. The former Wintersville Gibson's living in NC.

  • 09/03/2024

Our pets were frequent visitors to your father's office. On one ocassion, a stray male cat claimed the Gibson house as his home; he arrived with the tip of his tail severed. Your father treated him and put him on his feet. He called and said "come and pick up the cat he is doing just great"- I put on my coat and started to his office: before I went out the door, your father called again and and said ' Dana forget the cat, he just dropped dead". Another cat Pandy suffered from what appeared to be an infection of the nasal passages. A young up- start Vet who was assisting your father treated the cat for the infection. After several days the cat showed little improvement. Thank goodness your father returned from vacation-emamined Pandy and then told the young Vet to removed the right incisor tooth. That action solved the cat's problem. Dana Gibson

To the Family of Jack Wise: Your Dad was the only "old school" vet left around here when my first ever Dachshund became ill with an auto immune desease. He was very ill with some pigment off his nose. I brought him in and "Doc" did some blood work, sent it away, but was pretty sure what it was. Before the weekend was over, my beloved pet was on the mend and we enjoyed six more years with him! He was truly one of a kind and I was sorry he retired. Please accept my deepest sympathy at this very difficult time. God Bless. B. Washel

John, Mark and families, I was so sorry to hear about the loss of you dad and Joanne. My mom and dad (Bob and Jackie Bailie from Cadiz) were friends of your mom and dad since their college days at Ohio State. My mom got into her business (a dog kennel) thanks to both Barb and Jack. They continued that friendship until my folks passed away. My husband, Craig, was an instructor to both Jack and Joanne and that friendship continued into another generation. Memories of your family are flooding my mind. My sisters (Shawn and Drue) and I hope your memories are a joy to you for a lifetime. Brooke Bailie Bovenizer

Dear Wise Family, We are sorry for the tragic loss of father. In the late 70's we were just married and has two labs. During a visit Doc discovered our one lab had "pig worms" (from pigs) He was so proud of himself because he had not seen them since Vet School as he could still identify them. What a kind and loving man. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you. Peace

Our knowledge of Jack extends from our wedding night whwn he and the other vets short-sheeted our bed without knowing who we might be. From there we have been involved in operations on the ping pong table, construction of a boat in the back yard at 433 W. 7Th, visit to Knoxville and then to Wintersville. We saw the birth of John & Mark as well of having pictures of the blood transfusion dog. We only recently became acquainted with Joanna when they stopped after a football game. We have talked to you Barbara so you know what a shock and loss it has been to us. You all have our sincere condolences and maybe if you have a memorial sevice later we might be able to attend, though driving for a distance has some danger as I have been known to go to sleep! Again all of you are in our prayers!

Dear Wise Family: We are so very sorry to hear of the passing of your dad and his wife. They were wonderful people with very big hearts. As we live up the hill from them, we had the opportunity to talk with them when Doc Wise was mowing his field and Joanne was riding her horse. They will be truly missed by all who knew them. If there is anything we can do, please do not hesitate to contact us.
