Obituary For Dr. David H. Robinson

Dr. David H. Robinson, 84, of Bloomingdale, Ohio passed away on Sunday, January 30, 2022 at his residence. He was born on April 25, 1937 in Steubenville, the son of the late Harold G. and Gladys R. Purviance Robinson. Doc graduated from Steubenville High School in 1955 and from The Ohio State University in 1962 with a degree in veterinary medicine. He owned Crestview Veterinary Clinic in Bloomingdale for 59 years and mentored several future veterinarians, including his daughter and two sons-in-law. He served on the Friendship Park Board and as the Jefferson County Fair veterinarian for decades. Doc was active in the OSU College of Veterinary Medicine Alumni Association and served a term as president of the Association.

Doc loved animals and being a veterinarian. He thrived because every day at work was different and there was always something to learn. He was never afraid to try something new, even putting orthodontic braces on a dog once. He loved having fun, laughing and playing practical jokes. Doc wanted his life to be an adventure, and it was. Most of all, though, Doc loved his family. He was the greatest husband/father/grandfather/great-grandfather imaginable. We are so lucky to have him in our lives.

Preceding Doc in death were his first wife Marlene C. Robinson; daughter Kristen C. Johnson; and stepson Det. Sgt. Robert Bartek.

Doc is survived by his wife Violet J. Pernick Robinson; son David L. (Julie) Robinson; daughter Carrie H. Robinson; twelve grandchildren Ben and Marah Halper, Leah (Alex) Woody; Sam and Aaron Robinson; Delaney and Hayden Johnson; Maya and Anya Bartek; Ash, Vinnie and Anna Newman; great grandson Abraham Woody; son-in-law Dr. Kurt Johnson; stepdaughter Elizabeth (Paul) Newman; and step daughter-in-law Tamara Bartek.

Friends may call at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Road, Wintersville on Thursday from 1 p.m. until the time of services at 4:30 p.m. with Rev. Dr. Clint Quillen officiating.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Hounds Haven, 22 Twp. Rd. 150, Dillonvale, OH 43917

The funeral services will be live-streamed through our Shorac Funeral Home Facebook page beginning at approximately 4:25 p.m. Thursday.

The Doc was a superb veterinarian: compassionate; extremely knowledgeable; & always willing to explain what he was doing or what was wrong with your animal especially to children. Our world has lost one of its best veterinarians but Heaven has gained one great soul. My deepest sympathy to his Family & May he Rest In Peace.

Dear Robinson Family, so very sorry for your loss. Doc was so kind and compassionate. He was Munchkin's first and only vet. I have a cute pic of her and Doc; wherein you can clearly see she is not happy. Doc told her she was the most beautiful cat he had ever seen. Munchkin and I chose to believe him.. He will be missed by all of us and his devoted staff.

My deepest sympathies to the Robinson family. I have always had the utmost respect and admiration of Dave. He was such a kind and caring man who had a sincere interest in the people around him. Dave was my mentor, as he was with many others, selflessly sharing his knowledge, experience and professional wisdom. I vividly remember many years ago making farm calls and observing small animal surgery in the morning with him; and then going up to house for lunch (usually ham and cheese sandwiches) with Dave, Marlene, Carrie, David and Kristin before returning to the clinic for office hours. The times I spent at Crestview Veterinary Clinic are some of my fondest memories. Jack Fournier

Dr. Robinson was our family vet for 30+ years, and he cared for all our cats, our 2 Shelties, our Bernedoodle until he became ill, and multiple other pets in need of care, including a canary and one of our many guinea pigs. He was gentle and caring with all the animals, and he often reminded me of the vet James Harriet, author of the famous books (now again featured in a new MPTheater series All Creatures Great and Small). Dr. Robinsons great sense of humor was catching. His expertise as a vet for so many years was always reassuring, even when it meant an animals end of life issues, and I have never found another vet who could replace him. He was truly one of a kind! I did not know until 6 months later (August) that he had passed away, and I felt a real sadness when I saw his obituary. My sympathy goes out to all his family, especially his son in law Dr. Kurt Johnson.

It was with great sadness that I saw the Obituary for Dr. Robinson online yesterday, only 6 months after he passed away. My sincere sympathy goes to all the family, especially his son in law Dr. Kurt Johnson, who was our vet for some time when Dr. Robinson became ill. Dr. Robinson was a wonderful vet, and treated all creatures great and small, including one of our many Guinea pigs. He cared for our Sheltie Fiona no less than 18 years, and our cat Felicity almost 20. In the 32 years he was our vet, he always showed great expertise, kindness and a wonderful sense of humor. May he rest in peace!

Dr. Robinson was so kind, and such a wonderful vet. He was one of the first community members to volunteer to share his time and knowledge as a judge for our elementary science fair, The kids loved him and responded to his genuine interest. He was there every year for the kids at Wayne. He will be truly missed. Prayers are with the family.

I worked for Dr. Robinson while I was in college in the early 70's. At that time he had an office Corgi named Peppermint Patty and a long-haired gorgeous calico office cat named Rapunzel. Dr. Robinson was the sweetest man and a very, very caring vet. After all these years, I'm sure there was a huge herd of animals, large and small, waiting for him at the Rainbow Bridge.

  • 09/03/2024

Thank you, Doc for the care you have given all my family and animals. There are many happy animals waiting near the rainbow bridge for you. Bless your family and friends

I am so sorry for your loss. He was a wonderful and compassionate man. He always had a smile on his face. He was so patient with the pets and the people, I remember when I showed up on his front door with my one dog JD, who had been up all night, he kept having strokes, he was 16 yrs old, we had to put him down, he was so patient with him and me and did it right then. I will miss him. My love and prayers.

So very sorry for your loss.

  • 09/03/2024

My heart is breaking for your loss. Your family will most assuredly be in many prayers all over this region. Over the 30+ years, our family took so many pets to Doc (including a rescued robin and raccoon), and even a possum that we found stunned in the middle of the road. He always took the time to deal with each animal (and us!) with the grace, compassion, and humor of a saint! I am sure he was welcomed into heaven with a huge "Well Done!"
