I just saw that Dr Metzger passed in August. I cannot even express what a wonderful teacher he was and how he gently challenged me and made me a better nurse. We always talked about both of our times at Mercy in Pgh. I was thrilled to run into him occasionally in the last few years. He always remembered me. My deepest sympathy to the family. He will be welcomed by so many other valley co-workers!

Condolences to Judy and family. Dr. Metzger impacted so many lives and was dedicated to ensuring the patients entrusted to his care received a high measure of excellence. He shared his knowledge of cardiology with the nurses and it was an honor to work with him for many years. I am grateful for all he taught me and carried those lessons with me throughout my nursing career. He has touched so many hearts.

I had the privilege of working with Dr. Metzger during the early 1980s. We worked together in the coronary unit at St. John Medical Center. He always shared his knowledge and I became better RN. He was the gold standard in cardiology during his time. It was a mistake to bluff him yet he would graciously see to it that you were educated. If he asked about something, and you didn't know, all you had to do was to say, "I'm sorry I don't know the answer to that." Immediately, he would give the you the answer. Sometimes he had a firery personality, he simply asked that you did things right when you delivered care to his patients. The knowledge he instilled into me was used every day for the 42 years I was a registered nurse. For that, I will be forever greatful. We, frequently, talked about hunting and fishing. He will be missed.

Dr Metzger is my absolute favorite favorite doctor. I had the great privilege working with him at Trinity. He was a great compassionate cardiologist with a fantastic bedside manor that would tell you like it was. So much respect for him and truly every one of his patients loved him. Working with Dr Metzger as a new graduate nurse nobody else had measured up over the last 20 years and no one ever will. You will be greatly missed.

The cardiology knowledge he shared with me helped build my foundation as a cardiology RN and 34 years later, I am blessed to have learned from Dr. Metzger. Thank you Dr. Metzger. Truly one of the best️

Brilliant cardiologist and friend. We shared a few bow ties and fishing stories over the years.
