Dr. Anthony (Tony) Vincent Scurti passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 8, 2024. He was born May 1, 1938 to the late Adam & Genevieve Scurti. He was a 1956 graduate of Catholic Central High School, the Franciscan University of Steubenville in 1960, and Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara School of Medicine in 1965. He began practicing medicine in Smithfield, Ohio in 1968 as a family practitioner and then did a second residency for general surgery in Columbus, Ohio. Forty-seven years later, he retired from the practice of medicine in Steubenville, Ohio in 2015.
In addition to being a loving husband, father, and grandfather, Tony dedicated his life to servant leadership with the Catholic Church and the local community. He had numerous recognitions from the Catholic Church, including being a Knight of St. Gregory and a Knight of Columbus. Through his medical career, he served various positions with St. John Medical Center.
Tony is survived by his wife of 53 years, Elaine Ciancetta; daughters Heather Barnes (Jerry), Tiffany Scurti, and Nicole Roberts (Peyton); and eight grandchildren: Anthony, Adrianna, Christian, Sophia, Grant, Olivia, Brady, and Avery. Tony was preceded in death by his brother, Adam Scurti.
A funeral liturgy with mass will be held on Friday, May 10, 2024 at noon at Triumph of the Cross Parish at Holy Rosary Church, 200 Rosemont Ave, Steubenville, Ohio 43952. Fr. Matthew Gossett will celebrate. Entombment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
The family would like to express its sincere gratitude to Valley Hospice for their compassionate care for Tony as he spent his final days surrounded by family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Triumph of the Cross Parish.

Elaine, Heather, Tiffany and Nicole - as you know, my parents and Dr. Scurti were lifelong friends. They knew each other since the 7th grade and he was my Godfather. He was always full of energy and laughs and was still one of my dad's best friends when my dad passed in 2021. I am so sorry for your loss. When someone has as much personality as he did they are truly larger than life. He will be missed, but know that he touched so many. God bless you all and may he rest in peace.
