We extend our deepest sympathy to Mrs. Golas and her family. Coach Golas will be remembered most fondly and with deepest respect for the work he did with our Springfield HS Class of 1957. He led our team in basketball to a 23-1 season. He led our team in baseball to the regional playoff level. Those are great memories. Being with him and Mrs. Golas at our reunions was special. He was a special man with talents to emulate.

Dr. Tony Golas is one of the most wonderful people I have had the pleasure of knowing! He provided me with a wholesome and grounded view of love and life, being confident in who we are as individuals and bringing that to the world around us to change it for the better. My life is certainly better because of my interactions with him over many years. One of my fondest memories is the many times I would bump into Tony and Pat after their latest trip to a movie and got to hear a first hand review and witness a couple who always found time after many years to have dates together! Blessings on your family in this time of loss.

I was so saddened to learn of the death of dear Tony Golas and my heart goes out to all of you, his wonderful family. He hired me at what used to be the Jefferson County Mental Health Center down on North 4th Street. That hiring changed my life as I fell in love with counseling and became a clinical social worker. I owe this to him. Such a wise mentor, employer and so well respected by all who knew him. He will always be in my heart and in my wonderful memories. Deepest sympathies to you all.

Dear Marianne, I am so sorry to hear of your Dad's passing. I had him for a Professor at the Kent State Branch in East Liverpool for a couple of classes and learned a great deal on how to work with children. The last class I took from him was the year I graduated in 1975 and I started in Steubenville that same fall after my August Graduation. I hope to see you soon at the next retired teachers luncheon to tell you in person. I am sorry I couldn't make the visiting hours.

It was very emotional for me to hear about the passing of Coach Tony Golas. He was the most influential Coach and Teacher in my life. He coached me to be a tough disciplined winning basketball player; however his teaching of the importance of good sportsmanship and the respect for others was always his main objective. His tutoring on the basketball court and in the classroom was the inspiration for me to work towards getting a basketball scholarship and graduating with an Electrical Engineering degree. I will miss him and his friendly smile; but the wonderful memories of Coach Golas at Springfield Local High School will live forever! Bill Finn

First and foremost, I would like to tell you how horribly sorry I am to hear of the passing of both Mr. and Mrs. Golas. They were such sweethearts and you have no idea how much I enjoyed our conversations. I worked at The Ville for a year and a half and as many knew, they were one of the regulars. It always brightened my day to see their gorgeous smiling faces walking through the door. I would greet them and hold their hands as I walked them to the closest booth to the restroom, as they requested. On days that we were not busy, I would sit at the booth with them and we would talk anywhere from twenty minutes to an hour or two. They were my doll babies. I got to know and love them both very much. It really saddened me to hear the horrible news! God Bless all their family and friends and may they Rest In Peace! They will always hold a special place in my heart. Much love to both of you Angels!

I remember MR Golas (we all had respect for Mr Golas) as one of the all time best basketball coaches Springfield High School ever had, and his well renowned teams had respect from the other coaches and teams. He also had a way of conveying knowledge to people in a very understanding way - thus a great coach and a great teacher.

I was so sorry to hear about Mr. Golas. I heard the news from Dale Kirkland . Dale and I were both in the class of 1957 at Springfield High School. In my mind's eye, I can still see the smile he seemed to always have when he passed you in the hall going to the next class. I am truly glad that we had a teacher who cared very much for his students. I will remember him as a caring person as I am sure other classmates will too.
