Obituary For Douglas B. Lowry

Douglas B. Lowry, 87, of Pickerington, Ohio (formerly of Steubenville, Ohio) passed away on June 12, 2026, at Amber Park Senior Living. Douglas was born on June 21, 1938, in Toronto, Canada a son of the late Ernest Albert Lowry and Marjorie Kennedy Griffin Lowry. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Toronto, Bachelor of Divinity from Knox College, and Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He served as a missionary, Pastor and Clerk of the General Assembly of The Presbyterian Church in Canada, business executive and entrepreneur, and Professor of Business at Franciscan University of Steubenville where he entered full communion with the Catholic Church.

Doug’s most cherished role was serving his wife as her health declined in the years preceding her death. His devotion to her was exemplary.

Douglas is preceded in death by his beloved wife Margaret (Steele) Lowry, to whom he was married for 62 years, 4 months and 8 days (as he frequently shared with tremendous gratitude), along with siblings George, Joan, John, and Peter. He is survived by children Kevin Michael (Kathi Glenn), Sharon Elizabeth & Susan Louise; sibling Ed; eleven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Road, Wintersville, Ohio on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, from 12 pm until 1 pm. Funeral liturgy with Mass at 1:30 pm at Triumph of the Cross Parish with Fr. Matthew Gossett officiating. Burial at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Douglas’s honor can be made to the Franciscan University of Steubenville, 1235 University Boulevard, Steubenville, Ohio 43952.
