Dorothy V. “Dottie” Bailie, 89, of Steubenville, Ohio died Tuesday, June 8, 2010 at The Gardens of Western Reserve in Streetsboro, Ohio, where she had resided for the past several years. Dottie was born September 25, 1920 in Kansas City, Kansas a daughter of the late Russell and Clara Gregory. She was raised in Kansas City where she graduated from college in 1940 and began a teaching career that spanned over 40 years. During World War II, she met William Bailie at a social given for soldiers at her church in Kansas City. They were eventually married in Tucson, AZ on March 23, 1944 and were blessed with nearly 54 years of marriage. Following the war, Dottie and Bill returned to Steubenville, where they lived, worked, and raised their three children. Dottie retired from the Indian Creek School district. She was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church where she was active in the Mary Martha Class, Delta Kappa Gamma Educators Honorary, and Cyprus Twig. During her teaching career, she was also a member of Ohio Education Association. In addition to her husband and parents, Dottie was preceded in death by a brother, William Gregory, and a sister, Lydia Wilson. She is survived by her daughter, Susan (John) Morrison of Kent; two sons, Gregory (Polli) of West Chester, and Jeffrey (Debbie) of Pensacola, FL; grandchildren Michael (Kim) Morrison of Columbus; Steven (fiancé Sandi) Morrison of Kent; Natalie (Rev. Evan) Collier of Boston; and Rev. Adam (Renee) Bailie of Kingsburg, CA; step-grandchildren Scott Morrison of Columbus and Meagan Morrison of Wooster; eight great-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren. Friends may call at the Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Road, Wintersville, Ohio on Friday 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Services will be held at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 1443 Belleview Boulevard, Steubenville, Ohio at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, with Dottie’s son, Rev. Jeffrey Bailie, officiating. (Everyone please meet at church) Burial will be at Fort Steuben Burial Estates, Wintersville.
