Dorothy Topic, 97, of Steubenville passed away on July 1, 2014 at Lancia Villa Vista. She was born in Steubenville on August 8, 1916 a daughter of the late Lazo and Stanica Rodich. After graduating from Kent State University with a teaching degree she went to work for the Jefferson County School District in 1937. In a career that spanned 37 years she taught at Jefferson School, Garfield, Buena Vista and Harding Middle School. She taught grades 2 thru 5, many of her former students in our community and her numerous friends will remember her with fondness. Dorothy married George “Jack” Topic. When she was not teaching she was a loving and devoted wife, the center of her family. Dorothy became chief caregiver when her step-father became ill and later passed and she then cared for her husband. Preceded in death by her husband; sister S. Mary Bardin in 2011; brother Mele James Rodich in 1997; step-brother Eli Stanic in 1987. Dorothy is survived by her nephew James “Scott” (Carol) Rodich; grandniece Summer (Nate) McDonald and great grandniece Wren McDonald. Interment will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2014, 10a.m. at Union Cemetery, Steubenville. Anyone who wishes to pay final respects is welcome. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association.

My family, Bud and Ann Call lived next door to Dot for over 50 years. She was a wonderful "lady" and I will always remember her. Rest in peace, Lorna Layman Westerville Ohio
