Obituary For Dorothy S. Katsaris

Dorothy Susan Katsaris, 84, of Steubenville, passed away comfortably at home on Saturday January 30 following a brief illness.

Dorothy was born on December 12,1936 to Beatrice and George Matyas in Toronto, Ohio. After graduating from Toronto High School, she went on to serve in the United States Air Force for two years. Dorothy then spent several years as an administrative assistant working in the Steubenville Social Security office.

Marrying William (Bill) T. Katsaris in 1959, the active couple enjoyed outdoor activities, including boating, water skiing and tennis. Dorothy continued to be an avid tennis fan throughout her life, both playing the sport herself and following professional play.

In 1966, Dorothy’s focus changed to family as she started to raise her two daughters Susan and Melissa. Dorothy was incredibly involved in all their activities, especially sports.

Dorothy is survived by daughters Susan (Ron Jr.) Katsaris-Peeps and Melissa (Matthew) Katsaris-Smith, grandsons Noah William and Nicholas William Peeps, brothers Fred (Doris) Matyas and Mike (Grenda) Matyas, brother-in-law Tim Thomas, sister-in-law Yollie Thomas and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bill (2000) and a brother George Matyas.

The family would like to express sincere thanks to SouthernCare Hospice Services, specifically Kathy, Susan, Angela and Diana, for their genuine and compassionate care.

Funeral arrangements will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Make-A-Wish Foundation or St. Jude Children’s Hospital per Dorothy’s wishes.

My aunt and I would go to lunch often and chat and catch up on everything.  I loved this time we got to spend together.  My heart is broken when I found out she passed. I love you so very much aunt Dorothy may you be at piece with uncle Bill.Love Boo

Patrick and I enjoyed many visits with you when we left Charlotte and came to Steubenville to visit family. You were a big help when my mom passed and while my dad was ill.  You made us laugh and think. It will be hard looking up at the big empty house now. How cute it was to see the kitty houses you made while feeding the stray kitties.  Miss you
