Obituary For Dorothy M. "Jean" Dile

Dorothy Mae "Jean" Dile, 89, passed away Sunday, November 10, 2013 at Whetstone Gardens Assisted Living in Columbus, OH. Dorothy was born on June 23, 1924, in Zanesville, Ohio, the only child of her late parents Jeannette Williamson and Frank E. Neely. Her nickname "Jean" was bestowed on her by her Scottish grandfather. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Eugene Dile and her only child, Gary Lee Dile. Dorothy is survived by her step-daughter, Ethel Wilson of Easton Pennsylvania, her daughter-in-law, Madelyn M. Dile, and several nieces and nephews. Dorothy grew up in Columbus, Ohio where she met her husband Ralph and gave birth to her son Gary. A few years after his birth, her husband's work took them to Steubenville, Ohio where they raised their son and she later pursued a college education. She was a loving and caring individual who adored animals and enjoyed traveling. Dorothy earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the College of Steubenville in 1971, a Master of Science degree from Duquesne University in 1973 and a Ph.D. degree from the University of Pittsburgh in 1984 at the age of 60. She was a licensed psychologist in Ohio and West Virginia, first practicing in Steubenville, OH, then Wheeling, West Virginia and finally Hebron, OH where she moved to be close to her son and his wife. She was a past member of the Ohio and West Virginia Psychological Associations. She also served as a volunteer at the Licking County Animal Shelter and Licking County Memorial Hospital. Friends may call at Shorac Funeral Home, 611 N. Fourth Street, Steubenville on Saturday from 11 a.m. until the time of service at 1 p.m. with Rev. Doug Neavin officiating.  Burial at Union Cemetery.  Memorial donations may be directed to any local animal shelter.

    Madeline, Im very sorry to read that Jean has passed, she was always Mrs. Dile to me growing up in Pottery. Like my 2nd mother. Also I very much hope that all is getting better with you since Gary's passing. If you need anything or just someone to talk to please just call ,hopefully you still have my ph#, if not Freddie will know how to get a hold of me. My prayers are with and for all of you.

    Dear Shelly and Family, I am so sorry to hear that Jean passed away. I enjoyed working with her when she worked part-time in the mental health field, then later talking to her on the telephone. She was a very interesting lady,whom I will never forget. My deepest sympathy, Mary
