Obituary For Dorothy M. Hashman

Dorothy M. Hashman, 98, of Wilmington, NC, formerly of Steubenville, passed away on Monday, December 3, 2018 at her daughter Billie’s home, with whom she resided. She was born August 22, 1920 in Sturgeon, PA a daughter of the late Henry "Harry" & Elizabeth Bennett Tyson. She graduated from Wells High School in 1939 and later supported the war effort by working in factories in Cleveland and the Steubenville Pottery Co. After marrying, she and Bill lived in Steubenville for most of their married lives. When Bill retired in 1975, they moved to Billups Landing on Lake Marion in Summerton, SC. They loved fishing together and Dorothy was quite the fisherwoman. Preceding Dorothy in death were her husband Joseph W. “Bill” Hashman on December 21, 1998; brother William Tyson; sisters Sarah Margaret Tyson, Violet Green & Ethel Juszli. After Bill’s death, she returned to Ohio for a few years before moving to Wilmington, NC. Dorothy was the ultimate homemaker, who selflessly gave up any ambitions she might have had to care for her family and love them unconditionally. She baked and shared hundreds of dozens of cookies each Christmas and throughout the year, often shipping them across country to loved ones. Dorothy was a member of the former Briar Hill U.M. Church in Pottery Addition where she served as church treasurer.

Dorothy is survived by three daughters Sandie (Bill) McGrew, Judie (Rick) Pohlman & Billie (Bob) Fitzsimons; six grandchildren Ted (Star) Fitzsimons, Sean McGrew, Sonja (Ed) Long, Kelli (Jay) Frye, Joe (Michelle) McGrew & Erin (Stephen) Bonjour; and 13 great grandchildren.

Friends may call at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Road, Wintersville, Ohio on Monday, December 10, from noon until the time of services at 1:30 p.m. Burial at Union Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Wilmington Area Abilities Tennis Assoc. NC, P.O. Box 12522, Raleigh, NC 27605

dear sandie judy and billie, their are no words mom and I can say cause you already know how much we loved your mom and all your family. we are so happy that we have so many memories of all of us together almost every day and evening. growing up in pottery and living next door to you is something we will always cherish. all the summer fish fries, sharing so many laughs and a little bit of tears but our families were always their for each other, and that is is what makes our hearts so happy today remembering your mom and dad. god has surely gained a very very special angel to watch over all of you. just remember we loved her too. always and forever   sandie and peach
