Dorothy M. Harris, 78, of Bloomingdale, Ohio passed away on Monday November 6, 2023 at the Valley Hospice Care Center. She was born on August 31, 1945 in Jewett, Ohio a daughter of the late John L. & Betty J. Hosterman Merryman. After obtaining a bachelor’s degree, Dorothy worked many years in Information security & Disaster recovery within the Banking industry.
Dorothy is survived by her children Wayne (Heidi) Harris & Stephanie (Jeff) Walter; four grandchildren Keirsten (Logan) Morris, Bailey Harris, Emma Walter & Luke Walter and one great grandchild, Owen.
Throughout her life Dorothy was an adventurer with many passions that she pursued fervently. Her primary loves were her family and the family farm, closely followed by travel, particularly boating and anything related to water. She fiercely loved her family and found great joy in time spent together especially if it included travel. She found no greater happiness than a family vacation that included both of her children and all of her grandchildren. Her passion for the family farm was also intense, visiting the field and spending time with the cows even when her illness had limited her daily activities.
Her adventurous spirit took her all over the world, Europe, the Amazon river by boat, the Panama Canal and each of the 50 states. No destination too far, she knew no fear and was always planning her next exciting venture.
She had a fierce, interminable spirit, untamed by her illness or any hardship in life. Her independence, resilience, determination and fortitude made her a force to be reckoned with and admired and a strong matriarch and guiding force in her family. She will be deeply, deeply missed by everyone who knew her. May she rest in eternal peace.
Friends may call at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Road, Wintersville, Ohio on Saturday November 11, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at Noon with Rev. William Westling officiating. Burial at Fort Steuben Burial Estates.

Bob and I send our deepest sympathy to you; Eddy, Stephanie and families. Our memories of Dorothy go back many years of friendship through high school, as young adults raising our children, and as senior citizens sharing stories. There was never a time we were with her that she didn't have a plan for a new trip. May you all find peace in knowing how she treasured her life with her family and may she now rest is peace. Sending our love.

I didn't know her that long but she was a kind hearted woman who was always fun to be with. The card games we had at her home on Tappan will always be a memory I will cherish. She always made you feel at ease. When I heard she was ill it was a shock that hit me hard; such a lovely lady! Writing this I can't help to have my eyes tear up. R.I.P."Dot"
