Dorothy K. Huestis of Steubenville, Ohio died Thursday, October 3, 2002 at Gables Care Center, Hopedale, Ohio. She was born in Milwaukee, WI on June 20, 1911, the daughter of the late Ludwig and Dorothea Kottnauer. She was preceded in death by her husband David L. Huestis, who died on September 30, 1994. They were married on September 2, 1938. She was also preceded in death by one brother Robert Kottnauer. Dorothy was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church of Steubenville and a former member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church. She served as senior warden, was a long time member of the altar guild and taught Sunday School for 14 years. Education and teaching were life long passions. After graduating Phi Beta Kappa from Indiana University, she started her teaching career at Muncie, Indiana and subsequently taught students in her private kindergarten before moving to the Steubenville City Schools. She finished her formal teaching career at Bethany College where she was made assistant professor emeritus, upon her retirement. She was a recipient of the Girl Scouts Eaglette award, and was a member of the Board of A.L.I.V.E. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and the King's Daughters and Sons. Dorothy was an avid gardener and loved to travel, having visited six continents. Dorothy is survived by a son, Dr. Robert D. (Martha) Huestis of Columbus, OH, a daughter Barbara Jones of Grantham, NH, and four grandchildren Gretchen Huestis of London, England, Heather Huestis of New York, NY, David Huestis and Travis Burlile, both of Columbus, OH and one greatgrandson, Andrew Burlile. Friends are invited to attend a Eucharistic Mass at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Steubenville, OH. Burial at Union Cemetery, Steubenville. Friends will be received at St. Paul's Parish Hall following the mass.
