Obituary For Donald "Whimp" Petkovich

Donald “Whimp” Petkovich, 79, of Steubenville, OH died Friday, May 9, 2014 at Catherines Care Center.  He was born in Steubenville on June 24, 1934 a son of the late Dmitar and Mary Sekulich Petkovich.  In addition to his parents Whimp was preceded in death by sisters Helen and Florence Petkovich, Daisy Luscher, Pat Carlton and Stella Novington; brothers Samuel Peters and John Petkovich.  Survived by his brother Robert “Nick” Petkovich (Claudia Bell) of Steubenville and sister Dorothy Walker of Ft. Pierce, FL., and several nieces and nephews,  Friends may call at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Rd. Wintersville, OH on Tuesday from 6-8p.m. where funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at 10a.m. with Pastor Sonny Shoe officiating.  Burial at Fort Steuben.  Offer condolences at www.shorac.com.

    wimp and I WERE THE BEST OF FRIENDS SINCE THE 2ND GRADE AT STARK GRADE SCHOOL ON LOVER LANE ,COAL HILL WAS THE AREA BACK IN THE OLD DAYS 1940'S.WE HAD A LOT OF STORIES THAT BRING BACK THE FUN WE SHARED TOGETHER ALL THRU JR HIGH AND SENIOR HIGH AT THE OLD WINTERSVILLE HIGH SCHOOL.HE SHARED IN THE GLORY DAYS WHEN WINTERSVILLE WAS UNDEFEATED DURING THE 1950-TO 1953 FOOTBALL SEASONS AND WAS MGR FOR THE BASEBALL TEAM WHEN WE WON THE COUNTY BASEBALL CHAMPIONSHIP AND COULD HAVE BEEN A GREAT PITCHER FOR US,BUT VERY POOR EYES IGHT KEPT COACH HOFFMAN FROM ALLOWING HIM TO PLAY.I LOVED HIM AND WII MISS HIM,RLG

    Whimpy you were the greatest friend. I remember when you, Sonny and I would go out to a bar; Sonny and I would order a beer and you ordered a glass of milk. We had some fun times. Dave Canton, Ohio

    Whimpy will be really missed. He made us laugh and was a joy to be around My prayers go to his family and I how much he loved the Lord and i know he is in God's care. I am sorry i can not attend due to a fractured hip, but accept our love and prayers Dotti Vein

    we are saddened to hear of his passing. he was one of my best friends and ill never forget him. we are sorry we cant make the funeral. joe from Cincinnati formerly from Steubenville.
