Donald L. McCombs, 92, of Wintersville (formerly of Steubenville) died Sunday, May 3, 2015 at Trinity West. He was born on September 4, 1922 in Steubenville, the son of the late Roy E. and Mary C. May McCombs. Preceded in death by his 1st Wife Mary Isaac McCombs and 2nd wife Henrietta Kuruc McCombs; four brothers Robert, Raymond, William and Richard McCombs; grandson Jim Dearth and a sister Martha Buono.
Donald was a member of LaBelle View Church of Christ for over 80 years and a retired chemist from Wheeling-Pittsburg Steel Co. He served in the US Army during WWII where he was decorated with two Bronze Stars, a Silver Star and Purple Heart Medals.
He is survived by his children Donald (Sharon) McCombs of Raleigh, NC and Marsha (Rick) Mellott of Auburndale, FL; step-son Dr. John (Sally) Kuruc of Steubenville; five grandchildren John Dearth, Jennifer (Pat) LaChance, Jonathan Kuruc, Ryan Darrow and Tyler Kirk; and sister Margaret Bigler of Toronto.
Friends may call at the Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Road, Wintersville on Wednesday from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m., where funeral services will be held on Thursday at 12:30 p.m. Minister Tom Arehart officiating. Burial will follow at Fort Steuben where full military honors will be accorded by Ohio Valley Veterans Memorial Squad.
