Donald E. Humes Sr., 83, of Steubenville passed away on Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at Trinity West. He was born in Follansbee, WV on November 10, 1932 the son of the late Merle D. and Elizabeth Puzsar Humes. Don was Christian by faith and a graduate of Follansbee High School class of 1951. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the DER-213, Escort. He retired from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel in 1971 as a crane operator and electrical motor inspector repairman in the Steubenville North Plant. Don also served under Richard Wells former sheriff of Jefferson County as a deputy and constable. He also worked for Centurion Investigation under Stewart Sisley as an off- site supervisor at the Bruce Mansfield and Ohio Edison Power Plants. He later worked as a collector for Moore-Handley Company in Florida and was promoted to region credit representative in charge of Florida, Mississippi and Alabama. He later moved to Las Vegas, NV and worked plain clothes security at the Imperial Palace and Circus Circus Casinos. He received commendations for his many felony arrests. Don’s hobby was boxing and his love for animals. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son Gary A. Humes and his sister Betty J. Bates and his pet buddies Rusty, Kojo, Lucky, Laddie and his pet bird Charley. Don is survived by his wonderful wife of over 40 years Beverly J. Vandruff Humes; son Donald E. (Rita) Humes, Jr. of Defiance, OH; daughter Karen Sue (Todd) Evans of Defiance, OH; 7 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Friends may call at Shorac Funeral Home, 611 N. 4th Street, Steubenville, OH Thursday, January 7, 2016 from 2p.m. until time of service at 4p.m. with Minister Tom Arehart officiating. Private Burial.
