Obituary For Donald Buchanan

Donald “Don” Buchanan, 87, of Unionport, Ohio died Saturday, October 13, 2007 at his home. He was born May 22, 1920 in Unionport, OH a son of the late John and Hazel Orr Buchanan. Don graduated from Wooster College and spent many years as a petroleum engineer in the oil fields of Texas, Wyoming, Oklahoma and Illinois. Later, he returned to Ohio, raised cattle on the family farm and taught engineering technologies at Jefferson Technical Institute. He was a lieutenant in the Coast Guard during WW II. Don was a member and elder of Two Ridges Presbyterian Church but considered himself primarily a disciple of Christ. Teaching the Bible occupied many evenings of his life. He was also a member of Cadiz Country Club and enjoyed playing golf with his buddies. Surviving are his wife Margaret “Peggy” McCormick Buchanan and their son David (Alice) Buchanan of Cuyahoga Falls, OH; three children Donald “Bill” (Susan) Buchanan, Jr. of Middletown, NJ, Margaret (Richard) Jolley of Unionport, OH and Elizabeth “Lisa" (David) Montague of Ashland, OH from a former marriage; seven grandchildren and a brother Robert (Bette) Buchanan of Hilliard, OH. Friends may call at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, Wintersville Monday 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. where a service will be held Tuesday 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Hubert Granger and Rev. Wendy Norris officiating. Burial at Unionport Cemetery. Memorial donations may be directed to Charity Hospice or a charity of donor’s choice.

    Dear Peg, Dave and Alice, and Buchanan Family, We've known Don for a long time, from Wayne elementary through Wintersville class of '92, 4-H booths at the county fair, our wedding and countless trips home. We extend our heartfelt sympathy to your during this difficult time. While the pain will diminish over time, there is no replacing a man of Don's stature, presence and impact. We wish you the best.     I am writing to say I am sorry for your lost as a young girl living in Unionport my mom used to rent from Mr.Don and I love the house at the railroad track alots.
