Dessie Wilson, 85, of Wintersville, Ohio, passed away quietly after an extended illness on Saturday, November 22, 2014, at Lancia Villa Vista. She was born January 12, 1929, in Weirton, WV, the youngest of seven children born to Mike and Helen Rodosovich.Dessie was a graduate of Steubenville Big Red High School, Class of 1947, and especially enjoyed attending high school reunions throughout the years. In August of 1947 she married Bud, her one and only love who was also the youngest of seven children, and they settled in Wintersville where she would begin her life's work as a devoted wife and mother. The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her,so that he shall have no need of spoil. She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life.(Proverbs 31:11,12)With the help of other strong women, Dessie set herself to the task of becoming a disciplined, efficient homemaker who held herself to a rigid standard of family responsibilities for the remainder of her life. She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness.(Proverbs 31:27)She was the Cub Scouts Den Mother. She was the one who got up at 4:00 am to make sure her guys didn't go fishing without a hot breakfast in their bellies. She was the Mom who didn't care much for sports, but never missed her boys' athletic events. And she was the wife who wasn't the least bit interested in old cars, but joined the antique car club and rode in Dad's Model 'T' until her bones rattled. She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household...Her children arise up, and call her blessed;her husband also, and he praiseth her.(Proverbs 31:15,28)She was a lioness who fiercely guarded her family's well-being, who once saved Bud's life from a brain hemorhage by calling a doctor to task through her sheer dogged determination. And she was a gentle mother hen who coddled and instructed her chicks. As one of Dessie's nieces put it, “She was a force to be reckoned with.”She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms.Strength and honour are her clothing;and she shall rejoice in time to come.(Proverbs 31:17,25)Dessie was the last of a generation in our family who knew the deprivation of the Great Depression and the sacrifice required of World War II. In response, she shared generously throughout her life whatever she had – her time, her money, her recipes and her opinions, to be sure. But most of all she shared her love, and we are the better for it.Preceding Dessie in death were her husband Lloyd C. “Bud” Wilson; sisters Martha Homick, Bessie Dadasovich and Ann Irwin; and brothers Nick, Mike and Eli Rodosovich.Surviving are her sons Warren (Barbara) Wilson of Toronto, OH, and John (Susan Waychoff) Wilson of Bratenahl, OH; grandsons Kyle Wilson and Nicholas Waychoff, both of Cleveland, OH; granddaughters Cortney (Helker) Silva of Blacklick, OH, and Alyson Colledge of Wellsville, OH; and great granddaughters Aryn Colledge-Ice of Wellsville, OH, and Camila Silva of Blacklick, OH.Friends may call at Dunlope – Shorac Funeral Home, Wintersville, on Saturday from noon until the time of service at 2 p.m. with Rev. Randy Sells officiating. A private burial will be held at Fort Steuben Burial Estate. Memorial contributions may be directed to Colonial Baptist Church, 201 Gumps Ln, Wintersville OH 43953.

Aunt Dess had a beautiful smile and a wonderful laugh. She played a big part in my growing up years. I will always remember her and the good times we spent at their home.

A lovely elegy for someone who was only kind and encouraging to me. Her concern for her sons was expressed in giving and gently chiding. I remember her desire that things be done correctly and well. I am thankful for the many gifts she gave to our community.
