Obituary For Clifford O. Dillon

Clifford Olan “Pappy” Dillon 79 of Wintersville, Ohio, beloved husband of Frances Burgess Doan Dillon passed away at his home Friday morning after a lengthy illness. He was born in Steubenville, Ohio on July 28, 1923 a son of the late Everett F. and Ruth O. Busler Dillon. He retired from Weirton Steel Co. in 1984 after 37 years service in the 54” Strip mill. Cliff was a member of Smoking Stone Wood Carvers and National Rifle Association. He served his country proudly from May 18, 1943 to June 30, 1946 in the US Army during WWII in the European Theatre, receiving the Good Conduct Medal, Army Occupation Medal (Austria and Germany), European-African Middle Eastern Theatre Ribbon, American Theatre Ribbon and WWII Victory Ribbon. He was preceded in death by two brothers William and Arthur Dillon and one sister Wilma Trapus. Cliff is survived by his wife whom he married on September 25, 1953; two sons Curtis (Joan) Doan and Bill (Carol) Doan and one daughter Lucille (Paul) Medich all of Wintersville; eight grandchildren Kurtis and Kevin Doan, Darla Eckersberg, Amiee Byers, Valerie DiDomenico, Krissy Freshwater, Michael Medich and Paula Nofsinger; nine great grandchildren; two brothers Everett (Thelma) Dillon of Wintersville and Robert (Shirley) Dillon of Searcy, Arkansas; one sister Virginia Laizure of Toronto, Ohio and sister-in-law Eleanor Dillon of Richmond, Ohio. Friends may call at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Road, Wintersville on Saturday 7-9 p.m. and Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., where services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday with Pastor John Hearn officiating. Burial at Fort Steuben Burial Estates, Wintersville, Ohio. Memorial contributions may be made to Valley Hospice. Ohio Valley Veterans Memorial Squad will conduct services at the cemetery chapel.
