Obituary For Clara E. Callender

Clara E. Callender, 91, of Wintersville, OH died Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at The Carriage Inn of Steubenville.  She was born on December 24, 1922 a daughter of the late Thomas and Ina Wise Jolly.  Clara was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church and worked for many years at the former First National Bank which later became Bank One in Wintersville, OH. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth Callender; brother Jack Jolly and sister Gladys Eannarelli.  One of the “best looking girls in Smithfield” passed away in the safe surroundings of The Carriage Inn where she was a resident for the last seven years.  She was married to Kenny Callender for many years.  They were not blessed with children but had lots of friends along the way who enjoyed the parties they hosted in their wonderful home.  She loved to dance and play golf. She loved to dance so much that the last time she visited her niece and nephew in Houston, TX, Patty and Jack Eannarelli, she insisted on going country western dancing.  We wish to thank the loving staff at The Carriage Inn in Steubenville.  Clara went into the nursing home kicking and screaming but once they made her feel safe and welcome, she was very content.  Special thanks to Carol who would watch over “Aunt Clara” for us.  Clara will be buried next to her husband Kenny.  Services will be private.

Condolences

Patty & Family: I wish to offer my sincere condolences. My parents were Janet & Joe DeFranco and my sister is Donna Hatcher. Even though I no longer live in Ohio, Donna kept me updated on Clara. I remember both Clara and Kenny with very fond memories. I can see them both as if it were yesterday. Clara was always a wonderful friend to my family. She was very generous and caring. I am sure Clara is now at peace, happy to finally be united with Kenny. As they are all together again, I am sure Kenny & my father are playing cards & Clara & my mother are laughing. No doubt, Clara will be sadly missed by all of us.

Patty & Family, My sincere sympathy for your loss. I spoke with you from nursing home. My parents were Joe & Janet, lifelong friends of Kenny & Clara. You misunderstood my name to be 'Carol'. I hope my visits brought Clara some happiness. In the earlier years we loved to talk about 'the old days' or play bingo & go to church service. When Clara could no longer do some of these I'd push her around. She loved to go outside. We sang hymns. She remembered them all. I have been to cemetery. She struggled but at peace now.
