Charles “Tom” Williams, 76, of Wintersville died December 27, 2008 at Trinity West ER. He was born in Steubenville on January 6, 1932 a son of the late Charles B. Williams and Margaret Caswell Williams Newman. Tom was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and served in the U.S. Navy from 1949 until 1953 aboard the U.S.S. Bristol DD857, a destroyer, during the Korean War. He was also a member of American Legion Argonne Post 33, Bristol DD857 Veterans Association, Navy Memorial Association, former member of Steubenville Country Club and was an avid golfer. Tom retired from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel, Railroad Department in 1986 and was co-owner of Fashion Cleaners in Steubenville after his retirement. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his infant brother Richard Williams; step-father George W. Newman and half-sister Michelle Newman Huff. Survived by his wife Marilyn Jenkins Williams, whom he married on June 7, 1950; daughters Gayle (Barry) Poole of San Antonio, TX, Terri Sluganski of Pittsburgh, PA and Wendy (John) Maltese of Rochester, MI; grandchildren Sarah, Shela and Sean Sluganski and Christopher, Michael and Mackenzie Maltese; half-brothers George W. Newman, Jr., Gary P. Newman and Raymond Williams; half-sister Linda (Williams) Crane. Friends may call at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Rd., Wintersville, OH on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral liturgy with Mass will be held on Wednesday, 10a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Wintersville, OH with Msgr. Kurt H. Kemo as celebrant. Entombment at Fort Steuben Burial Estates. Vigil services Tuesday, 3:45p.m.Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, www.cancer.org or charity of donors choice.

We were deeply saddened to learn about the passing of Tom. We always enjoyed seeing him at Maltese family functions and on every other Christmas Eve when he would come to our house to celebrate with John, Wendy, Christopher, Michael, and Mackenzie. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you.
