Charles D. Dayton, 87, of Bloomingdale, Ohio, died Saturday, January 10, 2009 at his daughters residence of natural causes. He was born on August 29, 1921 in Jewett, Ohio, the son of the late Charles E. and Mary S. Orr Dayton. He was preceded in death by his wife Betty E. Harris Dayton; three brothers Glenn, Frank and Lonnie Dayton; two sisters Armatha Furby and Vivian “Peggy” Lawson. Charles retired from Norfolk & Western Railroad as a trackman and served in the US Navy during WWII.He is survived by a son Kenneth (Bonnie) Dayton and a daughter Rita K. (Richard) Butler, with whom he resided, both of Bloomingdale; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; brother Jewel (Shirley) Dayton of Smithfield, OH. Friends may call at the Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Road, Wintersville on Monday from 4-7 p.m., where funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. Rev. Hubert Granger to officiate. Burial at Fort Steuben Burial Estates where Ohio Valley Veterans Memorial Squad will conduct services.
