Obituary For Betty Jane Mayers

Betty Jane Mayers, 91 of Steubenville, passed quietly March 9th at Country Club Manor. Betty was born April 28, 1923 in Martin’s Ferry, OH. She was the daughter of the late Nellie Manners Nickerson and Arthur Nickerson, and sister of the late Norman Nickerson. She was preceded in death by her husband Ray W. Mayers.

In early years, Betty worked as a dental assistant, buyer for The Hub of Steubenville, and was a volunteer nurse’s aide at the Pittsburgh Veterans’ Hospital. She was a regional fashion model until 1965, and an extremely active member of Starkdale Church from the 1960’s, to the 90’s. Family was her focus, always. In her later years, she was dedicated to her 3 grandsons.

Betty is survived by sister, Marlene Cox; daughter Donna (John) Minor; grandsons: Jonathan Minor of Cambridge, OH; Michael (Kassondra) Minor, Steubenville, OH; and Christopher (Fiancée Jenna) Minor of Wintersville, OH; great-granddaughters Cameron and Alexandra Minor, along with many nieces.

Friends may visit Friday 13th 3-6pm at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, in Wintersville, OH; a brief memorial service will follow, and a private ceremony will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Starkdale Presbyterian Church.
