"Here I am Lord". Betty J. Bowers, formerly of Steubenville, joined our Lord on September 15th from Gulfside Hospice in New Port Richey, FL. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur (Art) Bowers, former Ohio State Representative.
Betty worked in the Tin Mill as a flopper for Weirton Steel during World War II. She married Art during the war and started their family while Art was fighting in Europe. Betty and Art started Bowers Tile & Marble in 1949. Betty was the business bookkeeper and also was Art’s Campaign Manager when they got into politics in 1964, all while raising 5 children.
Betty and Art retired to sunny Florida where she was an avid golfer and loved to play bingo. Later Betty moved to Holiday, FL living with her daughter Kathy and husband Mike for 8 years. Betty’s passion was her family and she loved to have fun.
For the past year Betty lived at the Villa's of Sunset Bay. She made friends easily and brought joy to all with her feisty personality and witty humor while freely giving lots of hugs and kisses to everyone.
Betty is survived by her children: Bob Bowers (Susan) of Indiana, Karen Bowers Budney of Florida, Becky Anderson (Gary) of Weirton, Missy Bowers (Dave Sillman) of Florida, Kathy Bowers-Lealos (Mike) of Florida. 7 Grandchildren: Kelly Bowers Reiser (Frederic), Kimberly Bowers Wang (Peter), Beth Bowers Giglio (Tony), Dave Bowers (Stacy), Scott Anderson (Jamie), Chris Anderson (Jenna), Teagrin Bowers and 14 great-grandchildren. Betty is also survived by her sister-in-law, Virginia Smith of Maryland.
On Saturday, October 3rd, the family will be receiving friends at 9am at Holy Family Catholic Church with a memorial mass at 9:30 followed by a Celebration of Life Luncheon.
