Alfred Dean Mansfield, 94, a long-time resident of Hopedale, passed peacefully from this life on April 15, at the Harrison County Home in Cadiz.Dean was born on August 23, 1918, in Bloomingdale, Ohio a son of the late Ellsworth E. and Pearl A. Roush Mansfield. He leaves behind his daughter, Cheryl, of Cape Canaveral, FL He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Gerry, three brothers Richard, William and Carl and two sisters Mary Parks and Doris Evans. He is survived by one brother, Dana (Arjanta) Mansfield of Bloomingdale, OH and three nephews.Dean graduated in 1936 from Wayne High School in Bloomingdale. As part of the “greatest generation” he served with the U.S. Army Air Corps 14th Air Force Flying Tigers in Burma, India and China during World War II.He retired in 1980 from the Harrison County Highway Department, and was also a retired United Mine Worker. After their retirement, he and Gerry lived part of each year in Brevard County, Florida.Dean was a member of the Hopedale United Presbyterian Church.Donations in his memory can be made to the Alzheimer’s AssociationA private memorial service for family and close friends will be held at a later date.Arrangements entrusted to Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, Wintersville.

My husband and I work as Nurses Aides at the Harrison County Home and we got to know Dean. We both enjoyed taking care of him during the last year and a half. We are sorry for your loss, Cheryl.
