Sidney E. Harris, 87 of Steubenville, OH passed away at the Carriage Inn of Steubenville on Sunday, May 5, 2002 following a lingering illness. He was born in Steubenville on July 31, 1914 a son of the late George and Elizabeth Meinzen Harris. He was preceeded in death by his wife Leota Anne Varian Harris whom he married on April 14, 1936 and she died in May 1998; one son George D. Harris in December 1990 and two brothers George D. and Clarence D. Harris. Mr. Harris retired from Weirton Steel Co. with 45 years of service and was a member of Steubenville Masonic Lodge #45 F& AM; Scottish Rite Valley of Steubenville and Steubenville Elks Lodge #231. Graduate of Steubenville High School Class of 1932. Sid was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing at Spring Hills Golf Course in East Springfield, OH; fishing with his friends and family in Canada and playing bridge at the Ohio Valley Duplicate Bridge Club. Surviving are his daughter Leota Gene (Robert) Melcher of Austintown, OH; three sons Sidney E. (Mary Ann) Harris, Jr. of Mingo Jct., OH, Alan E. (Mary Kay) Harris of Parma, OH and Jeffrey D. (Joyce) Harris of Toronto, OH; two sisters Bertha (Deane) Probert and Betty (Edward) Wilson both of Steubenville; six grandchildren Stacie Melcher, Marc Melcher, Diane Harris, Michael Harris, Brenda Harris, and Brian Harris; and three great grandchildren. Friends may call at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Road, Wintersville, OH on Wednesday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., where services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday. Burial at Union Cemetery, Steubenville, OH. Masonic services 7 p.m. Wednesday.
