Eugene L. “Gene” Nichols, Sr. 77 of Mingo Jct., OH died Monday, May 13, 2002 at Trinity West, Steubenville, OH. He was born in Crosby, MN on June 12, 1924 a son of the late Charles “Red” and Ellen V. Clark Nichols. He was member of Pilgrim Lodge 691 F& AM and Steubenville Shrine Club. Gene was preceeded in death by one brother Charles E. Nichols. Before his retirement from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp., he was a foreman in the carpentry dept. and served in US Navy and Marine Corps. as a medic during WWII. Surviving are his wife Regina Bard Nichols whom he married on May 22, 1944; two sons Eugene L. (Linda) Nichols, Jr. of Wintersville and Steve (Neva) Nichols of Steubenville; one daughter Beverly L. (Harvey) Sanders of Steubenville; eight grandchildren Eugene L. Nichols III, Laurie June, Barbara McEndree, John Deller, David Sanders, Jennifer Sanders, Stephanie Nichols and Stephen J. Nichols; and two great grandchildren Marissa and Juliana DeFallo. Friends may call at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Road, Wintersville, OH on Tuesday 7-9 p.m. and Wednesday 2-4 & 7-9, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday with Rev. Daniel Heusel officiating. Burial at Fort Steuben Burial Estates, Wintersville, OH Vigil services 3:45 p.m. Wednesday. Ohio Valley Veterans Memorial Squad to conduct services at cemetery chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Agnes School.
